Henry Hudson was the founder of the Middle Colonies, which he claimed for the Dutch.

He kept a journal but it consisted mostly of weather and other data pertinent to his voyages rather than commentary.

I’m not sure if this is the individual you want quotes from or not but I cannot find any - and I have looked extensively.
