What are some Famous Scenes/quotes from Movies Directed by Stanley Kubrick?
Ashley M asked:
I am doing a project for my video art class about a director that we picked. I have Stanley Kubrick. I already have some quotes/scenes from Full Metal Jacket and The Shinning. Is there any other famous quotes/scenes from movies that Stanley Kubrick had directed? If so, what movie is it from and what scene is it? For example, one famous scene that I put from The Shinning is the part where Jack Nichols says Here’s Johnny.

Wendy…I’m home! - The Shining
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Jesus, happy birthday to you Full Metal Jacket sung during Christmas morning in their barracks!
I’m sorry Dave. I can’t do that. 2001: A Space Odyssey
From A CLOCKWORK ORANGE there is always the disturbing scene where the man is singing ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ as he rapes a woman. Not nice by any means, though….
Is that you John Wayne Who said That who the F said that!
Full Metal Jacket
Dr. Strangelove - General Ripper talking about the Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids; the President saying There’s no fighting in the War Room; Major Kong riding the atomic bomb like a bronco (last scene)
2001 - the cut from the thrown bone to the orbitting space station; HAL the computer killing the astronaut, Dave, my mind is going… I can feel it; the trippy light sequence where the astronaut goes through the star gate;
A Clockwork Orange - Alec and friends at the milk bar; the rape sequence; Alec being forced to watch violent images with his eyes held open. The low-angle shot of the paralyzed man when he hears Alec singing is trademark Kubrick — he makes the average man look monstrous, as seen with Nicholson in The Shining, Private Pyle in Full Metal Jacket.
The Shining - steadicam shot following Danny as he rides his Big Wheel through the hallways (the way the camera banks around corners was revolutionary at the time).
Full Metal Jacket - deep focus in the barracks scenes (requires very fast film or lots of light to get that whole room in focus); shots of Private Pyle going crazy are reminiscent of the vengeful husband in A Clockwork Orange and Nicholson in The Shining; final shot of soldiers singing the theme to the Mickey Mouse Show.
