ive noticed over the years that famous quotations are everywhere from books to websites to newsletters.
curious to know if it is legal to quote without direct permission as long as you state the author
ex.
famousquote -authoroffamousquote
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

I’m pretty sure that as long as you give the credit to the correct person it’s perfectly legal to use it anytime.
To use a well-known quote is not illegal as long as you attribute correctly.
Quotations are public domain, legally, but if you do not ascribe, for example Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated to Mark Twain, you will not be sued, just ridiculed.
It is legal to quote:
Mister Gorbachev. Tear down this Wall
-Ronald Reagan
And so on.
